Katie holmes bob?

I am 26, average to short, oval face, short forehead and VERY thick, fairly straight brown hair. I am thinking of getting a haircut like the Katie Holmes bob, but am not sure if bangs will work on me, or if they will make my face look rounder/smaller...

dont get bangs unless your a super model or actress

it would be ok

If you have a small forehead,

bangs may not be a good idea.

Perhaps rounder

I'm not sure that cut works for Katie, actually. She looks like Anna Wintour. In a bad, scary old-lady sort of way.

But if you like this hairstyle, you can work with it to create a more natural look.

If you have thick hair, you should put in some short layers. They will frame your face, making your face look rounder and smaller. Also, some sun-kissed highlights will do the trick as well.

I would just get the bob but without the bangs and layer it. You can also go with Rihanna's bob thing. It looked cute on her and it would probably look good on people with small foreheads.

You sound a lot like me looks-wise. I'm not sure what qualifies as a short forehead though. Oval faces tend to work with pretty much any style though. Have you ever had bangs before - like even when you were little? You may want to try some longer bangs that you can hang in your face a little sometimes or if you decide they don't work, you can still put them back. Then, if they work, you can always cut them shorter, but don't forget how much maintenance can be involved with getting bangs and what a pain it is when you want to grow them back out! That is why I am extremely hesitant to go back to bangs after about 15 years without them. Best of luck!

actually sometimes bangs can slim a oval face. The cut will also work very well. If you do get the cut, straighten your hair because sometimes if you have a bob, and it's wavy you can look like a little girl

hope this helps :]

I have very thick hair as well and have tried bangs in the past. Some things you should consider:

- How wavy is your hair? If it is long, it may seem straighter because of the weight, and may spring up quite a bit when short.

- How coarse is your hair? If your hair is fine (but still thick), it will lay nice and smooth and flat; if it is coarse the bangs may seem kind of "big".

- Do you have a cowlick in front along the hairline? I have 2, and they kind of make an off-centre slight vampire peak (like an "M", and bangs were a disaster for me, as they just boing-ed out in an "M" formation at their own will. Even with lots of taming with products and tools (and extra styling time!) there would always be a bump.

Most of the concerns above can be remedied with products and tools, but make sure that you realize that it is part of the commitment to the bangs (not to mention the time and frustration it takes to grow them out if you don't like them).

Also something that I noticed when I had bangs was more forehead break-outs which I think was due to the ends of the coarse hair poking my skin (and not so much because of the oils).

I think a fringe of bangs can be strikingly beautiful on any face, but are you ready for the attention? I think they would be very sexy, but may be kind of harsh (and perhaps a bit "wig-ish"). If you have a strong personality and a style to match, I would say go for it, but if you prefer to blend in and your hairstyle not to be the first thing people noticed about you, I would suggest a longer, softer side-swept bang to start with.

Also, some suggestions on the actual cut, make sure that the stylist takes lots of bulk out by thinning it with their shears or a razor, and make sure there is some layering, or else you will end up looking like a mushroom.

Some general observations/comments about Katie's recent hairstyles:

- the smooth straight bob with bangs she has now is so sexy (kind of dominatrix), but not very versatile and probably takes a lot of work (probably by professionals) to keep it so straight and perfect. I have seen few photos where it wasn't super-styled and it didn't look so good (kind of child-like).

- the textured, layered bob with longer bangs that she had a bit earlier is so much more versatile and much lower maintenance. She could wear it sleeker and straignter or messier and chunky with the ends flipping out, imagine how cute she would look with the bangs pinned to the side. Much more wash-and-go as well, so probably will fit with more lifestyles.

Discuss it with your hairstylist. If he/she is knowledgeable and professional (talent helps, too), she/he will be able to advise you as to what will work best with your hair texture and lifestyle, etc. Good Luck!
